Terms & Conditions – Ara Kōkiri
1. Enrolment and ID Requirements
We want to make sure your licensing journey goes smoothly! It is your responsibility to have all the right documents ready for your driver licence application. Please make sure your DL1 application form and required ID are ready before the course begins. We’ll remind you to do this when you receive your enrolment details, and request confirmation in a follow-up closer to the start date. You’ll need to bring these documents with you on Day 1 so we can check they are ready to go before the practical sessions on Day 2. If you are 16 and don't have a passport, you'll typically need your Birth Certificate (Primary ID) plus a supporting ID like a Student Photo ID or IRD number. For your safety during driving sessions, please remember to wear suitable, closed-toe footwear.
2. Payment
To secure your spot in the course, please make sure the full fee is paid at the time of booking. Your enrolment is officially confirmed once the funds have cleared.
3. Documentation and Course Progression
To move on to the fun part—the practical driving and Skills Lab on Day 2—you must first present your completed DL1 form and required ID to the licensing agent and sit your Learner Theory Test. If you arrive without your paperwork, you will not be able to sit the test or join the in-car sessions. If you are held up by missing paperwork, please be aware that you will need to rebook. While we want to help you finish your journey, we can only offer a complimentary seat for the Day 2 practical components on a standby basis, subject to availability. Because our groups are capped at 6 students to ensure a quality experience, we cannot guarantee a spot. Please note that if you are offered a catch-up session and you miss it without 48 hours' notice, this complimentary offer will lapse.
4. Testing and Resit Policy
If the theory test doesn't go as planned on Day 2, you can have one immediate resit on the same day. If it doesn't happen on the second try, don't sweat it—we'll invite you to join 1 future classroom theory session for free to sharpen your skills. You'll just need to cover the NZTA resit fee for your next testing date.
5. Refund and Cancellation Policy
Because we pre-order materials for you, we have a few guidelines for cancellations:
More than 7 days' notice: Full refund.
4–7 days' notice: 50% refund.
Less than 4 days' notice: No refund provided.
6. Student Conduct and Values
We operate within a Te Ao Māori framework, where manaakitanga (respect and care) is at the heart of everything we do. We expect all students to treat staff and peers with kindness and respect. We have a zero-tolerance policy for aggressive, abusive, or culturally inappropriate behavior. Instructors reserve the right to pause or end a session if this environment is not maintained.
7. Health and Medical Disclosures
To ensure your safety, please disclose any medical conditions, visual impairments, or physical limitations that may affect your ability to operate a vehicle safely when prompted during the enrolment process.
8. Liability Disclaimer
Amiria Limited trading as Ara Tūhono Driver Training is not liable for any personal injury, or loss of or damage to personal property, sustained during the course, except where required by law.
9. Media Consent
Occasionally, we may take photos or videos for training or marketing purposes. Please opt-out when prompted during the enrolment process if you prefer not to be featured in these materials.
10. Force Majeure
In the event of circumstances beyond our reasonable control—such as extreme weather, natural disasters, or unexpected instructor illness—we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule sessions. We will work with you to find a suitable alternative date.
11. Privacy
Your personal information is in safe hands. We only collect what we need for course administration and licensing, and we manage it strictly in accordance with the Privacy Act.
12. Ara Kōkiri Referral Program
The Ara Kōkiri referral program is governed by the following terms:
Reward Issuance: Referral rewards, including Free 1-Hour Lesson codes, are issued only upon full settlement of the referred student’s course fees.
Rescheduling: All discounts and referral rewards remain valid should the referrer or referee reschedule their course date.
Refund Adjustments: If a student cancels their registration for a refund after a referral reward has been redeemed, the standard retail value of the practical lesson will be deducted from the refundable course balance.
Reward Limitations: Referral codes hold no cash value, are non-transferable, and cannot be redeemed for cash.
